My love for Essie nail polishes is not unknown to you anymore. I have a huge collection at home and I’m always very excited to discover each and every new collection. Talking about that, did you know that Essie launched a nail polish line, Essie Gel Couture, a gel-like shine line without the need for any UV lamp? 28 original shades are available in Belgium* and I was lucky enough to test some of them** in preview showing. Essie nail polishes are by far my favourite nail polishes so I was obviously very curious to test this new co. The promise? A long-lasting wear (up to 14 days) without the need to apply gel and use a UV lamp.
To differentiate them from the regular collection, the polish bottles were given a new design. A somewhat twisted shape, to remind the shape of a dress in motion. It’s not called “Couture” for nothing. An idea I really like btw. In short, the bottles are very cute and nonetheless keep this Essie spirit with their white caps.
As to application, still very amazed. The shape of the brush is the same at the one from the standard collection, juste may be a tiny bit shorter in length. What’s new? A swirl-stem, a bit like the shape of the bottle itself. A new technology to slow the pace of the nail polish and avoid getting too much product on your nail. Loving that!
Now on to the most important – what about the long-lasting wear? The brand says up to 14 days. So? Well, it doesn’t get quite close to that to tell the truth but I’m still super duper satisfied on that point. The polish stayed perfect for 4 days! This is record as far as I’m concerned. As from the 5th day, it started to chip a bit on the side but it was nearly invisible. I was quite surprised myself so even if it’s not 2 weeks, I think there is really a great improvement. And don’t get me on the shine effect that stays for days and days as well and really gives this gel-like shine. Only downside, the smell. It’s rather agressive, more than a traditional nail polish so if you get headaches easily, make sure to apply the Essie Gel Couture with an opened window.
Another good point is that you don’t need to use a base coat anymore with Essie Gel Couture. Each shade nows comes with an included base coat and I find that so handy. Always in for applying one coat less as it’s a time-saver. There is still a top coat needed to ensure the long-lasting wear effect and give an incredible shine to the nails.
In the end, I cannot wait to discover all the other shades and especially the ones in the States, which we haven’t here! Already on my wishlist for my trip to California this September 😉
Did you test them already? Curious to know your opinion about them!
